We all want to look our best on our wedding day, and look like the gorgeous brides you see in the bridal magazines. We want to look like ourself only better, like a more glamorous version of the person our husband to be fell in love with. So we want to ensure we’re preparing for a beautiful wedding. On the big day, your makeup needs to last all day, and potentially through tears and laughter, through eating and drinking, and through many hugs and congratulations, and not to mention many, many hours of celebrations. All of this places a heavy toll on your makeup, meaning you really need to make it last in order to have it appear as fresh and flawless for the photos as you’re leaving the reception, as it did when you were just getting dressed. To this end, preparation is key. Although makeup artists can perform wonders, often these mini makeup miracles can start to wear a little thin by the end of the night, so start early, and you can definitely look like a more beautiful version of yourself all day.
- Get your skincare routine in order right from the start when preparing for a beautiful wedding. For most of us, we don’t really review our skincare routines, until something happens, a product is discontinued, or we get an allergy, but occasionally its worth reviewing and making sure what you’re doing is still working for you. Perhaps invest in a facial, and actually ask the beauty therapist for some advice, if you’re not confident researching and finding products on your own. Most beauty therapists are happy to offer advice.
- Stick to a routine that’s practical for you, and get into some good habits. Make sure whatever routine you decide to invest in is practical for your lifestyle. Its no good filling your bathroom cabinet with all the products under the sun if you’re never going to use them. Having been there myself, your fiancee will end up using them himself, or will end up throwing them out because there’s no room in the cupboard for his stuff! If you’re a simple kind of gal, you’re better off with a good cleanser, moisturiser, and eye cream, and leave it at that. Regular care is always going to yield better results than a few panicked facials a few weeks out from the wedding.
- Stress less and eat well. Often we get stressed by various things in the lead up to the wedding, and our diet can be one thing that suffers. As the skin is one of the primary modes of detoxification of the body, we often break out or get dehydrated skin when we’re not eating well, or we’re stressed.
- Use an eye cream when preparing for a beautiful wedding. One of the most common things I get asked by brides when I’m going their makeup is why does their under eye area, or their eye shadow end up looking crepey, wrinkly, powdery and dry by the end of the day. This is usually due to the skin in this area being dehydrated. The skin in the eye area is often drier than that in the rest of the face, as it doesn’t contain as many oil and sweat producing glands. Because of this, it is more critical to keep this area hydrated, particularly as this area ends up having a lot more makeup put on it than most other areas of your face.
- If you can’t afford a whole heap of facials in the lead up to the wedding, consider investing in a few good quality treatment products to have at home (such as an exfoliant, masque and serum). A lot of women get scared off by the initial price of treatment products compared to the cost of a salon treatment, however, you need to consider you are often buying a whole container of product, which will usually last for many treatments, and in many cases, many months. Hence, to accurately compare pricing, you need to compare the cost of the product divided by how many potential uses you will get out of the product, which often works out to be quite competitive, and will help preparing your skin for a beautiful wedding.
- Give yourself plenty of time to have makeup and hair trials. Don’t leave these to the last minute. You want to feel comfortable with your hairstylist and makeup artist. Given that you are going to be spending a lot of time with these people on the big day, you want to be comfortable working with them, and feel confident in their abilities. Give yourself plenty of time to have trials. Ask as many questions as you like, and make sure you tell them upfront if you have any allergies. You don’t want to waste your time with a trial in the busy period leading up to your wedding if you have an allergy to an ingredient in the only range of foundation they use.
- Communicate well with your chosen professionals. Many girls will have trials and then go for a night out or similar, to see how their makeup wears, to ensure it will last the whole day. If there is anything you didn’t like about the way the makeup wore throughout the day, get back in touch with the makeup artist, and let them know. In most cases, it’s often things like the color of the eyeshadow being too dark or similar, in which case most makeup artists will be willing to offer you another trial to fix the problem.
